“Hopes and Dreams from Torchbearer #46” - written on May 24, 2008

  * How can a 15 year old American girl have the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch in China at one its most famous Universities?

  * How can our unbelievable joy of watching the Olympic Torch Relay help us bear with the unimaginable human loss in Sichuan?

  * How can we use the Olympic Spirit to come together to help the families of Sichuan rebuild their homes and their lives?

  * How do we as students honor our true heroes; the doctors, nurses, soldiers, teachers and volunteers who are giving so much of their hearts to help those in need?

  * How does our globalized generation solve our most pressing problems of healing the planet and alleviating world poverty in our lifetime?

  * How can we realize that a successful life is not defined by the size of our bank account but by only one measure “did we give back more than we took from our planet?”

  * How can I use my experience as a Torchbearer to educate my fellow Westerners that Chinese people are warm and peaceful and just want to develop their country and engage the world with mutual respect so that all of their 1.3 billion people can lead dignified lives?

  * How can I forever remember the tremendous support that I received from the students of Shanghai Jiao Tong who welcomed me with open arms and open hearts as I carried the Olympic Torch through the streets of their hallowed institution?

  * How can I ever repay you for your smiles, your cheers, your photos of joy and your wonderful email messages of support that will echo throughout my entire lifetime?

  * How can a single blade of grass thank the Sun?
